Un’altra domenica di auto quarantena, interrotta solo per andare questa mattina in chiesa, a pregare il nostro Patrono Sant’Antonio affinché possa intercedere con nostro Signore per una fine veloce di questo strazio che sta subendo il genere umano.
E’ anche bello guardare il sole attraverso i vetri delle finestre, pensare ed immaginare di andare al mare, e pensare che nemmeno uno scoglio può arginare il mare, ma un virus ci tiene bloccati dietro un vetro.
San Paolo in questo momento ha le strade deserte, perché per fortuna la maggioranza, se non quasi tutti i nostri Cittadini, da buoni disciplinati osservano le regole imposte per porre termine a questo evento tragico, questa “guerra“ che non riusciamo a condurre a nostro vantaggio.
Dopo questo periodo sicuramente qualcosa cambierà, sicuramente alcune nostre abitudini saranno modificate, ma il mio auspicio è che i cambiamenti portino ad un mondo migliore, una migliore qualità di vita, ad una maggiore fratellanza e rispetto per i popoli.
Dobbiamo assolutamente trarre l’insegnamento di quanto sia importante vivere in società, di quanto sia importante vedersi , parlare, salutarsi ed abbracciarsi con i nostri Cari, i nostri Amici, i nostri Conoscenti, di quanto sia importante guardare ed aiutare il prossimo in difficoltà.
A questo proposito permettetemi di ringraziare tutti, dai semplici Cittadini, ai Commercianti, alle Aziende locali che con enorme senso di solidarietà ognuno per quello che poteva, spontaneamente ha donato generi di prima necessità per il nostro banco alimentare, perché ogni cittadino potesse avere qualcosa da mangiare, per sé e per i suoi cari.
Sicuramente sarà stato un momento molto tragico, non avere il coraggio di guardare in faccia la propria moglie, il proprio marito, il figlio, i propri cari perché non c’era la possibilità di provvedere a procurarsi da mangiare, e per questo abbiamo deciso di venire incontro a questa famiglie con consegne di alimenti.
Tante famiglie sono state aiutate, grazie al preziosissimo apporto delle Associazioni di Volontariato e della Protezione Civile e delle Caritas Parrocchiali.
Ma noi non ci fermeremo perché ancora tanta c’è da fare.
In questo momento l’orgoglio di guidare una Comunità solidale, una Comunità dove nessuno sarà lasciato indietro, dove nessuno sarà lasciato solo, è tanto.
Tanti nostri concittadini sono rimasti lontano da San Paolo perché le disposizioni legislative non permettevano di rientrare, tanti sono fuori per lavoro, tanti sono rimasti per scelta, per non mettere in pericolo l’incolumità di chi stando a San Paolo era lontano dal contagio.
Anche a voi devo dire grazie, perché avete anteposto il vostro desiderio di rientro all’esigenza di salvaguardare la vita delle vostre Mamme, dei vostri Padri, delle vostre Sorelle Fratelli, Zii, e soprattutto dei vostri Nonni, le persone più fragili in questa battaglia.
La solitudine che state vivendo sicuramente vi segnerà, ma sappiate che avete fatto la scelta giusta, sappiate che vi sono riconoscenti anche tutti gli altri Cittadini.
San Paolo per fortuna ha pochi casi, e speriamo di riuscire a contenere l’epidemia, e che questo isolamento termini presto, cosi che voi possiate tornare a salutare, a riabbracciare i vostri cari, e noi tutti vi aspetteremo per fare un grande festa, magari in occasione della festa del nostro Patrono Sant’Antonio, che questa mattina in rappresentanza di tutti i Sanpaolesi io ho potuto pregare per intercedere nei confronti del Signore affinché tutto questo finisca presto.
Non voglio dilungarmi troppo in queste poche considerazioni, ma sappiate che il Sanpaolese, la Sanpaolesità è un modo di vivere, un modo di essere, che è nel nostro DNA.
Anche se si nasce in altri posti d’Italia, o del Mondo, il legame che ci porterà prima o poi a ritornare per rivedere i posti dove avete vissuto la vostra infanzia, dove hanno vissuto i vostri genitori, o i vostri nonni, se non siete nati qui sarà sempre forte ed intenso, perché voi siete “ SANPAOLESI “
Vi aspetto, vi aspettiamo tutti.

Translation into English of the mayors letter written to Sanpaolesi in San Paolo di Civitate, Italy and the world.Another Sunday of self quarantine, interrupted only to go to church this morning, to pray to our Patron Saint Anthony so that he can intercede with our Lord for a quick end to this agony that mankind is undergoing.
It is also beautiful to look at the sun through the window panes, to think and imagine going to the sea, and to think that not even a rock can stem the sea, but a virus keeps us stuck behind a glass.
At this moment, San Paolo has deserted roads, because fortunately the majority, if not almost all of our Citizens, being well disciplined are observing the rules imposed to put an end to this tragic event, this “war” that we are unable to wage to our advantage.
After this period surely something will change, surely some of our habits will be changed, but my hope is that the changes will lead to a better world, a better quality of life, greater brotherhood and respect for peoples.
We absolutely have to learn how important it is to live in society, how important it is to see, speak, greet and embrace with our loved ones, our friends, our acquaintances, how important it is to look after others and help those in difficulty.
In this regard, allow me to thank everyone, from simple citizens, to traders, to local companies that with an enormous sense of solidarity, each one where he could, spontaneously donated basic necessities to our food bank, so that every citizen could have something to eat, for himself and his loved ones.
Certainly it must have been a very tragic moment, not having the courage to face your wife, your husband, your son, your loved ones because there was no possibility to provide food, and for this reason we decided to meet these families in their time of need with food deliveries.
Many families have been helped, thanks to the invaluable contribution of the Voluntary and Civil Protection Associations and of the Parish Charities.
But we will not stop here because there is still so much to do.
At this moment the pride of leading a community united in solidarity, a community where no one will be left behind, where no one will be left alone, means a lot.
Many of our fellow citizens remained far from San Paolo because the legislative provisions did not allow them to return, many are away for reasons of work, many remained by choice, so as not to endanger the safety of those who residing in San Paolo, were far from the contagion.
To you, I also have to say thank you, because you put your desire to return as a lessor need to safeguard the lives of your Mothers, your Fathers, your Sisters, Brothers, Uncles, and especially your Grandparents, the most fragile people in this battle.
The loneliness you are experiencing will surely mark you, but know that you have made the right choice, know that all the other Citizens are also grateful to you.

I don’t want to go too far into these few considerations, but know that Sanpaolese, Sanpaolesità is a way of life, a way of being, which is in our DNA.
Even if you were born in another part of Italy, or in the world, the bond that will lead us sooner or later to return to revisit the places where you lived your childhood, where your parents lived, or your grandparents, even if you were not born here this need will always be strong and intense, because you are “sanpaolese“!
